Course: S2 Chemistry

Instructor: Tr. Okello Walter

Institution: Kitgum Matidi Seed Secondary School

Course Description

Welcome, S2 learners, to the exciting world of Chemistry!

This course is designed to build a strong foundation in the core principles of chemistry, following the Ugandan Lower Secondary Competency-Based Curriculum. I am your teacher, Tr. Okello Walter, and I am excited to guide you as we explore the materials that make up our world.

Throughout this course, we will move beyond the textbook to make learning interactive and engaging. We will use a variety of digital tools, including instructional videos, online simulations for virtual experiments, and collaborative discussion forums. Our goal is to not only understand chemical concepts but also to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills for the 21st century.

This course introduces Senior One students to the fundamentals of Information and Communication Technology. Learners will explore basic computer concepts, understand the components of a computer system, and develop practical skills in using common software applications. The course emphasizes safe and responsible use of technology, digital literacy, and the role of ICT in modern society. It provides a strong foundation for further ICT studies and encourages students to become confident and competent users of digital tools.

Course Description: Chemistry (Senior One)

WELCOME TO S1 CHEMISTRY,

This course will involve  four CHEMISTRY concepts . First and foremost,  Chemistry is the study of matter – what it is made of, how it changes, and how it interacts with the world around us. In Senior One, this course introduces learners to the basic ideas of Chemistry that form the foundation for future studies.

Learners will explore:

  • The importance of Chemistry in daily life (food, medicine, agriculture, environment, and industry).

  • Laboratory safety rules and proper handling of chemicals and apparatus.

  • The states of matter (solids, liquids, gases) and how they can change.

  • Elements, mixtures, and compounds, and how to separate them.

By the end of the course, learners should be able to:

  • Understand the role of Chemistry in solving everyday problems.

  • Use basic laboratory skills safely and correctly.

  • Describe and classify matter.                                                                                                                             This course is designed to make Chemistry both interesting and practical, showing learners that it is not just a subject in class, but a science that explains much of the world around them.

This course introduces Senior Two learners to the fundamental concepts of Physics as outlined in the Uganda lower secondary curriculum. Learners will explore topics such as measurement, motion, forces, work and energy, pressure, heat, light, sound, and electricity. Through guided lessons, experiments, and real-life applications, students will develop scientific inquiry skills, problem-solving abilities, and a deeper understanding of how Physics explains the natural and technological world around them.

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Use basic measuring instruments and apply the concept of units.

  • Explain and apply the laws of motion and forces in everyday life.

  • Understand the concepts of work, energy, and power and their applications.

  • Investigate heat, light, and sound phenomena.

  • Explore basic electricity and its role in modern living.
